MOUNTAIN TUR HUNTING IN NORTH CAUCASUS Tur is a unique animal, half-ram, half ibex, found only in the Caucasus Mountains, on the eastern side which in Russia inhabits Dagestan or Eastern tur (Capra cylindricornis) and on the western side inhabits Kuban or Western tur (Capra caucasica). In the middle part of the Caucasus Mountains inhabit both this species which mixed often and form Mid-Caucasian Tur. The three different Turs count toward both the Ovis and Capra World Slams. The hunting camps are located at the altitude of up to 2.500 meters (8000 ft.), and approximately 4-6 hours traveling from the airport. Hunter reaches the spike camp from the base camp either on horseback, by car or on foot. This is one of the most exciting mountain hunts in the world. The hunting takes place at the altitude of about 3.000 to 3.500 meters (10.000-11.500 ft.) and is physically demanding due to very steep, rocky and precipitous slopes. Shooting over a distance of 250-400 meters is common. Hunter should bring sleeping bag, sun glasses, sun screen, range finder and binoculars. Arrival point for all destinations is the airport Mineralnye Vody via Moscow Hunting season dependently of destination approximately: in spring from 15 April to 29 May in summer, in autumn and in winter 15.07 - 31.12; best time: mid. Sept. – mid. November CHOOSE YOUR HUNTING AREA |
